So What Is This Blog About?

This blog is a Humanities View of the world of the Lakota from both a large and a single persons view. The large view will incorporate what is happening locally (single reservation more then likely Cheyenne River, my tribe) regionally and nationally. I will attempt to add insights on how a great grandmother looks at these happening to the mundane about my travels, family and life in general... I hope it is entertaining, educational, inspiring, and helpful for thoughs of you who are interested in our world.

If by any chance you want to add your opinion please do so - I love discussing issues. If you want me to cover a subject please let me know and I will attempt to do so. I have spent my entire 65 years attempting to learn about who we are and why we are this way. I have lots of theories that I will cover as the year goes by. I will share my poetry, stories of my family from the past, and what is happening today. I will add pictures... etc, etc...

Some of the subjects I plan to cover are:

  • Traditional Lakota Childcare practices.
  • Traditional Stories that taught morals to children and instilled proper social behavior,
  • Tribal Government in the Past, Present and future,
  • What it means to be a Lakota Women and how this has strengthened our people and helped us to survive,
  • How we survived using innovative techniques and systems that were meant to control us and defeat us...

I'm Back

It has taken awhile to get to where I wanted to get back to my blogging. I was busy this past year and did not have the time or energy to devote the quality time I believe a blog deserves. With the ending of 2010 and the start of 2011 I thought it would be a great time to begin once more. I have made a New Years Resolution for this coming year and that is "to be aware". This could mean aware of my relationships, my environment, my home, and of course my blog.

I was premature in the thought that I could be faithful to this blog ... I named after my wonderful Aunt Aurelia. Her Indian name was "They Come To See Her" and because of my love and respect for her I knew that I could not live up to what I considered to be attentive. Therefore, I took time off and thought about what it was I needed to do... I am now aware of what I think needs to happen on these pages so here I am ready to begin... Hopefully I will get more followers and keep them interested in my thoughts... Happy New Year to all of you.
